April 2026 Events — Chronological
Local author Andrew Pruett leads a two-hour public program based on his book Shaped by Water: Animals, Water, and the Future We’re Building. Explore how water shapes the lives of Minnesota’s animals, and how everyday human choices affect water quality and wildlife wellbeing. Includes a short section on AI tools and conservation stewardship. A walk through the zoo is part of the program. Free, family friendly. Meet at the Nature Center.
Event Details →Join the Olmsted County Soil & Water Conservation District to learn about soil health principles for farming, rural, and urban properties. See live demonstrations comparing altered vs. natural soil systems, and learn how native prairie planting can help. Event Details →The Byron Community Education Center hosts weekly Wednesday luncheons for seniors. On the third Wednesday of each month, the Byron Senior Club holds its organized monthly luncheon. Family Services Rochester also provides an affordable weekly meal. A card-playing group often meets before the meal. A great way to connect with neighbors and enjoy community. We Are Water MN Traveling Exhibit — Oxbow Park & Zollman Zoo
This statewide traveling exhibit explores Minnesota’s water issues through personal stories, local history, and scientific information. For 2026, it makes its debut at Oxbow Park’s newly-renovated Zollman Zoo & Nature Center — the first zoo to host the exhibit. While you’re there, visit over 30 species of Minnesota native animals including otters, eagles, bison, and more. Karst geology of the Olmsted County area is also on display. Oxbow Park & Zollman Zoo — Open Daily
Oxbow Park’s 634 acres along the Zumbro River are open 5 AM – 10 PM daily. The Zollman Zoo and Nature Center are open 10 AM – 4 PM. Trails, a fossil-hunting playscape, picnic shelters, and free activity backpacks are available. April is a great time to spot spring wildflowers and migrating birds. Parks Open for the Season — Byron Township Recreation
Byron Township’s parks reopen in April! Whistlestop Park (59 acres) features ball fields, soccer, football, lacrosse, a dog park, paved trails, and the Byron Township Community Center. Bicentennial Park offers 12 pickleball courts, tennis, basketball, a skate park, a playground, shuffleboard, and wooded walking paths. Both parks are free to visit. Byron Township Parks info →
Weekly Senior Luncheons — Byron Community Education Center
The Byron Community Education Center hosts senior luncheons every Wednesday. Family Services Rochester provides an affordable meal most weeks. A card-playing group also meets before the meal.
