Things to Do in Byron, MN in September 2026

Cool mornings, Friday night lights, and a full month of fall gatherings in Byron and just down Highway 14. Here is what is on the calendar, in order.

September is the month Byron finally exhales. The heat breaks, the maples along 2nd Avenue start to turn, and the whole town seems to end up in the same three places: the high school bleachers, somebody’s back patio, or a festival field a few minutes east in Rochester.

This month has a little of everything. There is a barn concert on the first night of September, a car show with a cookout, a family festival at Cascade Lake, a downtown dog day, and Homecoming week to close things out. Everything below is listed in chronological order, so you can read straight through and plan the month as you go.

A note on geography: Byron sits about ten minutes west of Rochester, so several of the biggest September events happen just east of town. They are close enough to count, and each listing tells you exactly where you are headed.

  • Where:History Center of Olmsted County Historic Barn, Rochester, MN (short drive east of Byron)

A 100th anniversary concert featuring The Voice standout Nicholas David performing hits across the decades, paired with a wine tasting hosted by Salem Glen Winery. An old barn, a warm September evening, and a century of music is about as good a way to open the month as Olmsted County offers.

Bears Football

Byron Bears Varsity Football vs. Goodhue

  • When:Friday, September 4, 7:00 PM
  • Where:Byron High School, 1887 2nd Ave NW, Byron, MN

The first major regular season home game of September for the Byron Bears. Bring a hoodie, get there early if you want a seat on the home side, and expect the concession line to be its own social event.

Family Festival

F.A.R.M. Fest 2026

  • When:Tuesday, September 8, 4:00 PM
  • Where:Cascade Lake Park (Zumbro West Park), 88 23rd Ave SW, Rochester, MN

The 8th annual Food, Arts, Recreation and Music festival, built specifically for families. It is an outdoor event on a lake park, on a weekday afternoon, in the best stretch of Minnesota weather all year. Plan on the kids wearing themselves out, which is the whole point.

Sept 9 2026
Social & Kid Friendly

Garden Tea 2026

  • When:Wednesday, September 9, 10:00 AM
  • Where:Mayowood Stone Barn, 3385 Mayowood Rd SW, Rochester, MN

A seasonal indoor garden tea social at the historic Mayowood property, and one of the few genuinely kid friendly events on this list that does not involve a field or a football. A good mid week morning outing for grandparents and grandkids.

Sept 10 2026
Byron Local

Byron Annual Car Show

  • When:Thursday, September 10, 4:00 PM
  • Where:Benedictine Living Community, 551 Byron Main Court NE, Byron, MN

The most Byron event of the month, and it happens right in town. Show cars fill the lot, there is a picnic cookout and live music, and Mrs. Patty’s Sweet Treats handles dessert. It is free to walk through, easy to bring older relatives to, and over early enough that you are home before dark.

Sept 11 2026
Bears Football

Byron Bears Varsity Football vs. Stewartville

  • When:Friday, September 11, 7:00 PM
  • Where:Byron High School, 1887 2nd Ave NW, Byron, MN

A high energy regional matchup under the Friday night lights. Stewartville games always draw a bigger crowd than a normal week, so get to the lot early.

Sept 12 2026
Dogs & Family

Dogs Downtown 2026

  • When:Saturday, September 12, 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM
  • Where:Central Park, downtown Rochester, MN

A single day, dog centered street party with games, agility courses, dog vendors, and family activities. If your dog is good with crowds it is a great morning. If your dog is not, come without the dog and enjoy watching everyone else’s.

Sept 12 2026
Fundraiser

Celebrating Abilities Fall Fundraiser

  • When:Saturday, September 12, 3:00 PM
  • Where:Little Thistle Brewing, 2031 14th St NW, Rochester, MN

The annual one day fall fundraiser supporting Ability Building Community. Live music, inflatables, a silent auction, a dunk tank, pumpkin painting, face painting, and root beer floats. It starts right as Dogs Downtown wraps up, so you can do both in one Saturday without rushing.

Sept 24 2026
School & Community

Byron Bears Junior Parent and Student Meeting

  • When:Thursday, September 24, 5:00 PM
  • Where:Byron High School Performing Arts Center, Byron, MN

A planning workshop for high school juniors and their parents, focused on mapping out post graduation timelines. Not a festival, but arguably the most useful hour on the September calendar if you have an eleventh grader in the house.

Making a fall weekend out of it

If you are building a day around one of these, Byron gives you an easy second stop. Oxbow Park and Zollman Zoo sits just north of town and is at its best in late September, when the oaks turn and the trails are quiet on a weekday. Pair a morning there with the car show or a Friday game and you have a full day without leaving the area.

Highway 14 also makes the Rochester events genuinely easy. Most of the venues on this list are fifteen minutes or less from downtown Byron, so a festival afternoon in Rochester and dinner back in town is a reasonable plan, not an expedition.
